TCP Group is supporting the Thai Red Cross Society by providing digital chest X-ray machines to three field hospitals, giving them support in screening for COVID-19 cases and diagnosing lung and respiratory system diseases. The machines were developed by the Assistive Technology and Medical Devices Research Center (A-MED) under the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). Two digital chest X-ray machines ‘BodiiRay S’ were provided to Mae Sot General Hospital, Tak and Samut Sakhon Hospital, Samut Sakhon, while a digital radiography retrofit ‘BodiiRay R’ was provided to Banphaeo General Hospital (Public Organization), Samut Sakhon. In total, the machines are valued at 4.3 million baht.

Mr. Saravoot Yoovidhya, Chief Executive Officer, TCP Group, said: “Currently, confirmed and potential cases of COVID-19 are still on the increase and need continuous screening and medical treatment. This has led to a shortage of medical equipment, especially in field hospitals located in the areas under close surveillance. That’s why we have joined hands with the Thai Red Cross Society to provide X-ray equipment to those hospitals in need, increasing efficiency in screening and diagnosing COVID-19 cases. The equipment will also be beneficial in detecting other lung and respiratory system related diseases in the future.”

The digital chest X-ray machines and the digital radiography retrofit were developed and innovated by Thai researchers for Thai people. The equipment can be used to perform 2D radiography of internal organs, which is useful for initial screening and diagnosis of various lung-related diseases. The equipment has been tested for radiation safety from the Department of Medical Sciences, Ministry of Public Health, passed the electrical and electronic safety standards from the Electrical and Electronic Products Testing Center (PTEC), and certified for ISO 13485 (Quality Management System for Medical Devices), thereby ensuring excellent effective detection of COVID-19, as well as other lung and respiratory system diseases.

Key benefits of the digital chest X-ray machines and the digital radiography retrofit include:

  • Immediate radiographic display
  • Synchronized adjustment for patient positioning
  • Easy-to-use software with adjustable features for customized use
  • Lower radiation doses than traditional film X-ray machines
  • Connection to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS)
