TCP Group and “Thai Beverage Can” team up to energize our environment encouraging the collection of used aluminium cans in a closed-loop recycling system

TCP Group, the manufacturer and distributor of beverages under the Kratingdaeng (Red Bull), Ready, Som Plus, Sponsor, Mansome, Mansome Vitamin Water, Hi!xDHC, Puriku, Sunsnack, and Warrior brands, is continuing with its purpose of “Energizing a Better World for All,” in line with its Caring strategy – energizing our environment. The company has joined with Thai Beverage Can Co., Ltd., Thailand’s leading manufacturer of aluminium cans and lids, to pilot the “Transparency of Aluminium Can Closed-Loop Recycling” project to bring used aluminium cans back into the recycling process generating a closed-loop production of new aluminium can beverage packaging while collecting more waste into a one-stop recycling process.

The “Transparency of Aluminium Can Closed-Loop Recycling” project aims to support the establishment of a comprehensive recycling system for used aluminium cans in Thailand, in line with the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) that the manufacturer is responsible for considering the environmental impacts throughout the life cycle of its packaging from the design, distribution, return, collection and reuse.

TCP Group’s aluminium can beverage products, namely Sponsor Sleek Can Original and Mansome Collagen Sleek Can, are certified with the Aluminium Loop logo on the packaging to communicate and engage consumers that aluminium cans containing these beverages can be recycled in a closed-loop system. Currently, TCP Group and Thai Beverage Can have collected more than 23 million used aluminium cans for recycling, representing approximately 300 tons of aluminium that have been recycled into more than 15 million new aluminium cans (data as of 31 July 2022).

The lifecycle – reviving aluminium cans

An aluminium can is considered non-waste packaging because it can be continuously recycled in a closed-loop cycle. After consuming their beverages, consumers can place aluminium cans in recycling bins or return used cans, washed and squeezed into a smaller size, at over 197 ‘Aluminium Loop’ pick-up points nationwide. The collected cans will be transported to the factory for recycling, bringing a new aluminium can back into circulation. Consumers can check the can’s format (whether it is aluminium or not), by looking at the bottom of the can to see if it is ‘softer and curvier’ than steel cans, or by checking the ‘Aluminium Loop’ logo.
